Prairie Chicken
(Self portrait)
1950
Egg tempera on gessoed masonite
12 x 9 inches

Here, the artist turned her humor inward, portraying herself as a prairie chicken stranded in a Kansas cornfield. For most of her life, Margot Peet longed to live in New York; she visited regularly with her husband who attended business meetings in the city.
